Course details

Finding it difficult to swallow food and drink properly can have a profoundly negative effect on a person’s life. As well as making it difficult to enjoy a normal, social activity it can lead to further complications, some of which can be dangerous and potentially fatal.

This session looks at how staff can support people with dysphagia. This module was developed as an extension to the suite of Food, Nutrition and Hydration in Health and Social Care eLearning courses.

By the end of this course, learners will:

  • Understand how normal swallowing works
  • Be able to describe the signs and symptoms of dysphagia
  • Be able to identify which groups of people are more at risk from suffering from dysphagia
