Course details
This eLearning course, developed with Health Education England, aims to provide an overview of the importance of oral health and how it promotes the well-being in patients you care for.
The course highlights the importance of oral health including how plaque causes dental disease, why teeth should be brushed, how to care for dentures and the link between oral health and general health.
Maintaining oral health brings benefits in terms of self-esteem, dignity, social integration and nutrition.
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe what plaque is and how it grows.
- Describe the links between poor oral health and general health.
- Explain how dental plaque in the mouth affects general health, especially those requiring someone else to care for them.
- Outline mouth care in a patient’s daily routine
- Summarise how to complete a mouth care assessment
