Course details
Effective communication is central to safe, person-centred care. This course provides healthcare staff with the knowledge and skills needed to communicate clearly, respectfully, and confidently with patients, colleagues, and others involved in care delivery. Through three focused modules, learners will explore what makes communication effective, how to meet individual communication needs and preferences, and the importance of confidentiality in practice. Real-world examples and practical guidance will support learners to build trust, reduce misunderstandings, and ensure everyone is heard and understood.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Understand what makes communication effective and how to adapt your style to different situations.
- Identify and overcome common communication barriers.
- Support an individual's communication needs, wishes and preferences.
- Recognise a range of communication aids, assistive technologies, and digital tools that support inclusive communication.
- Apply key principles of confidentiality in everyday practice.
- Gain a clear understanding of confidentiality, including legal responsibilities, informed consent, and when it may be necessary to share information to protect others.
